A delightful summer read is "The Lemon Jelly Cake" by Madeline Babcock Smith. There's quite a bit of sweet baking involved, as the title suggests, and if I recall correctly, even some homemade ice cream. You probably won't find it in your library unless you're in Illinois, as it is not a well-known book and is published by the University of Illinois Press, but I think it's worth the search. :)

Oh yum! I'm having such a hard time staying away from ice cream (due to the gestational diabetes), but as soon as this baby is born... I would love to be able to give suggestions on fun sumer reading, but lately all I read is academic... A blogger friend just suggested 4 fun summer readings though: http://amiusmie.blogspot.com/2012/06/recent-reads-summer-2012-part-two.html

A YEAR IN PROVENCE is what I love at this time, and for me, well, I read FRENCH NOVELS all summer. BUT WOMAN, YOU MADE IT. TWO MORE DAYS with the little ones? YIPEEEEEEEE this is a call for TWO CHERRIES ON TOP! I cannot get enough cherries in my system these days. They say they are good for arthritis and if that is true, then I just may never get it!! Oooooo how your photos speak volumes of sweet goodness!

OK, you are almost there my dear. You have done it, you will celebrate and those kids, if they are like ours, are going to be bouncing off the walls. Prepare!

Let us know what you will be reading!

OH....any poetry will do! LOVE! Anita

Today is our official first day of summer vacation at our house. We're in the midst of a heatwave and I told my youngest son that he doesn't have to attend the half day of school today or the hour tomorrow. Our schools don't have air conditioning and it's going to be around 100 degrees and humid. YUCK!! Enjoy your ice cream social!! : )

Can't help you out on the fun book list. I am reading 'That woman' at the moment about the life of Walllis Simpson. It is a good read, but not much fun. Sorry :-)!

Happy summer to you, too, my dear friend! Looks delicious!

I am currently rereading Jane of Lantern Hill by Lucy Maud Montgomery for the fourth time. It is the perfect early summer read as it chronicles the magical summers of discovery Jane has on Prince Edward Island. A slim volume so a quick read, but filled with Montgomery's trademark imagery and heartfelt storytelling.

I like the sounds of the ice cream social! I do miss the licorice ice cream I use to get while in British Columbia..the only place I can get it here is in the next county, one ice cream shop by the seaside. I do miss the huge selection of ice creams we would get in Canada though..
Have a lovely weekend..

Ooooo there is that cherry and I am going to STEAL IT!!!!! I cannot get enough of them this summer!

KORALEE! YOU DID IT! YOU SENT OFF THE KIDS????? Now it is just you teachers. WELL DONE MY DEAR, WELL DONE. I go back the first week of September as a substitute and I already have a couple of jobs lined up from my colleagues!!!

Well Koralee darlin', you are going to be let loose soon and you are going to sprinkle your magic everywhere, I know it. And you are now working on CHRISTMAS photos! I know what you mean about not having enough light. We had a SPARKLING day yesterday but was not ready to photograph some of my work. Today, CLOUDY! This is one wet summer.

OK, you are ready, set, GO to clean up your classroom and then you are free as a blue bird.........
