~ Who do you touch? ~

IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE
"Strange, isn't if George?
Each man's life touches so many other lives.
When he isn't around he leaves an awful hole, doesn't he?"
~Clarence the Angel, It's a Wonderful life~
***

The great lesson....
is that the sacred is in the ordinary,
that it is to be found in one's daily life,
in one's neighbours,
friends,
and family,
in one's backyard.
~Abraham Maslow~

***
who do you touch?
just something to
think about
as we head into
2010

What a good, thought-provoking question. I'd like to place that on my fridge to remind me every morning that I might be what that special someone needs that day...so to be aware of my surroundings. :)

I love "It's A Wonderful Life"! I always get teary eyed at the end when all of George's friends show up to help him out. Great post :)

What a thought provoking question my sweet Koralee.
I rarely get stumped...yet here I sit...puzzled as to how to respond.
I know I think an awful lot about those who touch me.
I've never been shy about letting others know the exact ways they are touching my life. I like to think I live each day tuned in to all that is touching my life...if I don't...I know I'm going to miss something really precious.
Luckily I have been blessed with family and friends...and a wonderful husband who are all very expressive about the ways that I have touched them over the years.
This has helped me to know me better and to grow deeper into myself as the years pass. I believe God wants us to be willing to admit that WE DO MAKE A DIFFERENCE...everyday...WE MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
He created us and placed us on this earth to make a difference.
This is the greatest gift we can give Him in return.
Touching others is why we are here.
Thank you for who you are Koralee and the sweet way that you have touched my life...and the lives of so many!
Oh...and I know you touched the oh so precious life of Miss Rosie!

Hi there! Oh, I love that you quoted "It's a Wonderful Life". My very favorite movie - I can watch it so many times and never get tired of it and quote some of the dialogue also. This quote from Clarence is the gist of the whole movie - each of us impact everyone we come in contact with in some form to some degree. Good to remember when we are feeling useless and discouraged. I need to think about this more in the next few days. Thanks for bringing it up.

Come see me and I'd be honored if you'd follow my blog also...

This is a very good question. The church our family attends talks about this all the time and refers to it by the Greek word oikos which kind of means "the 8 to 15 people God has placed closed to you in you life, that your life affects, like family, neighbors, coworkers, etc." Remembering that word does help you keep these relationships in mind, and consider them more. I love the way you put it!
Blessings,
Marcia

Very thought provoking, Koralee...I love It's a Wonderful Life! Funny, the first thing my Mom said through her tears when we knew my Dad was gone was, "There's such a void." Dad shared all the special days with us. He never missed one of them. But, it's the ordinary days I miss the most. When I was home this summer he'd just stop by for a chat...check in...then go on his way. (He and my Mom lived next door. Mom moves to an assisted living residence in a couple of weeks.) Hold tight to those ordinary days.
And just love.love.love with all your might!
Many blessings in the New Year!

it truly is in the ordinary, it's the little moments of each day that really count. i am learning this more and more as i get older. i often watch my children and wish i could just freeze some of these precious moments that i know i will long for when they are grown. it's the little hugs and smiles throughout the day, the little things they say.....thank you koralee for such a beautiful post. wishing you much happiness in the new year. xo susan

A thought-provoking post. I was told that if I left my church, so many people will be at a loss, because they were depending on me. I still find it so hard to believe as no one has ever said anything to me. Touching someone's life in a positive way is encouraging, I imagine :o)

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

What a lovely thought to start the New Year with. Some times we sell ourselves short on just how many we touch on a daily base. You should know that you touch many.

I love that quote from the movie - one of my favorites, ever. And it is so, so true.

The beauty of blogging that Julie@being Ruby says is true: we never know who we will touch. I have felt indebted to other bloggers who write something that absolutely opens my world up. They will never know how it has shaped me into a more whole woman. But, I am in constant gratitude for them.

You remind me in this post of how we all affect other people in our daily doings, and of course we hope to buoy them up and not drag them down!
When I see a person who looks like they are in pain, even as I drive along the street, I say a quick healing prayer for them.
Our words and our prayers are powerful.
Sometimes when I am in the pool exercising I ask God to make the pool a healing place for everyone who is in it, and that includes me.

It is good to think about. I think I need to make sure I write down a few "touch" goals for the new year & get busy! Since my 3rd babe has been born I am in this phase of life where I just am trying to get life back in balance (the third one really put me over :) but I think it is time to get back into the world & reach out again!

A wonderful thought to ponder on, over the next few days, Koralee.
Hopefully, we all make a difference to someone, sometime, somewhere. I just don't think that we know it, which is right and proper.
Have a wonderful New Year's Eve and I wish you and your family everything that you wish yourselves in 2010. With love. XXXX

I inappropriately touched my sister's chocolate and gin and now she isn't speaking to me. On the plus side, she'll be a little slimmer this new year, I'll be a little fatter. Karma, my friend, karma.... ;O)

Seriously though, so true. Your post has given me the opportunity to share this timely story with you; when holidaying in Canada in August, I gave a lad $20 who announced at the train station he needed the money to get home. Everyone ignored him but I went with my gut instinct. He asked for my address to pay me back but I gave him my email.

When he'd gone, I was berated by a woman with a small boy to murmurs of approval from others. I suggested to her that not all people are looking to buy drugs and that I went with what I saw, having dealt with students for many years and having a feel for the truth. I remember quietly asking her how she would feel in 15 years time if her wee lad couldn't get home and asked a stranger for help. I remember getting a tad teary, and heading for a different carriage, once the train pulled in. I felt bad for for letting people make me feel that way but still felt I'd done the right thing.

I received an email a month ago from a lady who asked for my address; she said she had something to return to me.

Guess what I received in the post yesterday?? A parcel filled with beautiful treats, a letter of thanks from the train station lad and a long letter from his gran, explaining the gifts and the lack of cash, obviously realising dollars would be no use in Scotland.

She told me the range of circumstances leading to this lad's moment with me and the events that happened afterwards, what could have happened and what did happen. Never have I felt happier about a decision I made. So yes, we do touch others, even if it doesn't seem so at the time.

Have a wonderful hogmanay, lass and all the best for the New Year ahead.

Helen xx

Oh, this post was for me today. I am in the throws of motherhood, trying to get through a tough season of "those ages" with my girls and depending upon a wonderful King who is intimately mindful of me. Yet, I want to worry about how I feel instead of remembering that all I do and say touches these precious lives; the babies He has entrusted to me. You have no idea how this has encouraged me. I found your blog just today and I am so glad I did.
