{morning vs night}

early bird vs night owl
*
I am a true blue
"early bird"
my eyes spring open at 5:30am
each and every morning
{I have never ever in my life used an alarm clock}
even as a teen 7:30 am was sleeping in for me
the moment my eyes are open
my mind is racing
a mile a minute
*
Do you consider yourself
an "a.m. robin"
or
a "p.m. owl"?
I would love to know!
*
some interesting tidbits I found that might
just confirm that the a.m.ers
have a slight edge over the p.m.ers
~a.m. people have more energy
{53% vs. 39% for night owls}
~a.m. people eat well
{55% vs.39%}
~a.m.ers are more optimistic
{66% vs. 56%}
~morning people exercise more
{45% vs. 37%}
~25% of those night owls polled said they would
like to be an early bird
{taken from a recent Gallup poll
found in p. legge's book... If only I'd said that}
*
today I was pretty glad I was up a 5:30am
for the sweet spring birds were singing me
one amazingly beautiful song
which started my day out on the perfect note
{I guess you p.m.ers hear the bass notes of Mr. Owl each night before you fall to sleep
... that is something I have missed out on all my life}
*
Now finally for my sweet announcement
the winner of my
giveaway
is
#116
Susan
please visit her stunning blog
{sweet susan beautifully inspires and creates..
I promise you will love her!}
*
please don't forget
to leave a comment
letting me know if you
consider yourself
an "early bird"
or
a "night owl"
both are good in my books

Oh how I wish I could get up early in the morning! If I make a real effort, I can *maybe* get up at 7:30, and the extra hours before my toddler wakes up are invaluable. On the other hand, my creative side doesn't wake up until after 10pm- as soon as it gets dark, I start feeling energetic and craftastic! Maybe I should move to alaska, or one of those places where it's dark a big part of the year?

Hi honey, congrat's to the winner!

Mmm I'm a bit of both actually, I get up early without an alarm too...but I kick in a bit later in the evening too....woops!

I am a little of both as well. I am up before the chickens but am wiped out after about 2PM. Then I get another burst of energy about midnight.

Hmmmmm??? I am more of a morning person now but I use to be a pm person but I think it has more to do with age than preference. You know when you are in school you can stay up all night studying or just having fun and then you become the responsible adult and the professional world is more for am people. I do love seeing the sun come up and I am with you. I have one sweet bird outside each morning around 6:30 when the sun is finally up and he just sings but in the summer at nightfall I have an entire choir of birds singing their last song of the day, now that is really something,Kathysue

I was always a night owl ... but have reverted to waking early these days. I do feel that I get a lot more done when I'm up earlier ... even though I still do enjoy a lie in ... once in a while!

Thanks for the info Koralee.

Hi Koralee... I just left a comment for Susan at Hometown Girl... what a pretty blog she has!

You might know from my late night or early morning comments that I'm both...
I guess I burn the candle at both ends!
Oh dear... I wonder what the stats are on that schedule!
Hope you're having a quieter week with the Olympics over... I'm sure Vancouver is still in a state of celebration!
What a wonderful job Canada did hosting... The world truly needed these amazing moments~
Take care, dear ♥

I have become a night owl but actually would love to be an early bird!! I think having children has definitely changed my routine....I would have to get up pretty early to be ahead of my children! I do love the idea of being up when the house is still quiet and having a peaceful cup of tea while planning my day ahead....right now, I find myself staying up late and enjoying the quiet while everyone else is sleeping!

Good question Koralee :)

Is there a 'middle-of-the-day' bird? I love to sleep until at least 8:30, but then I want to head for bed at 10 p.m. So...I'm neither an early bird OR a night owl. My on-line name is Magpie so I guess that's what I am...I need the mid-day light to find all the sparkly things that magpies like!

I am a night owl. I wish I could be an early bird, but I seem to be stuck prowling around my house all through the night. Congrats to your winner! And your feature in WWC was fabulous!

I am both! I don't wake up at 5:30, but I do wake up about 6:30. I have most of my energy in the mornings, and do all the physical things I need to do. I really drag in the afternoons...if I stop moving, I can easily go to sleep. But, about 9:30 p.m. I get a boost of energy and stay up late and read or watch cable news.

Gosh so sorry I have been all over the place lately and so so busy! Anyway it feels so good to come visit you finally.... I am for sure an early bird. I love nothing more than the freshness of dawn with a hot cup of coffee, the morning dew & chill with the birds waking up~
Big Hugs!

I am both! My husband works crazy hours so some days I am up early and other days I am up later. But when his job is "normal" (hasn't been in 5 years) I am more of an early bird (early being 7 am) My mom is more like you, she gets more done before noon then anybody I know. This morning I heard the birds but last night I heard many frogs. :) Love that.

I am a tried-and-true night owl and I do wish I would be a morning person! Especially since I have two little people who rise before dawn. :)

Blondie's Journal said...

I have been both. Working and then having children had me up at dawn. As they got older I became a sort of night owl (sorry...never heard any!). Once again I am an early bird. My husband and I like to get up about 6:00 am and have coffee together and talk for a few hours before he leaves for work. I admit, my energy wanes in the afternoon and I either drink lots of coffee or take a nap!! ;-)

Hooray for Susan!

Like you ~ I am an 'early birdie' ~ but more around the 4 am time! (I am usually sleeping by 9 pm at the latest!) I too have never had the need to set an alarm.

Early summer mornings, out on my patio, swinging on my chair swing, sipping a cup of tea and watching the birds, all before I get ready to go to work...ahhh...Heaven! :)

I am definately a robin. I wake up every morning at 6:30am - a habit from childhood. Usually my eyes start to close at 10:45pm which doesn't always make for fun times since I know more owls than robins!

Tammy@T's Daily Treasures said...

I don't think I'm either. Getting up early is hard for me, although when it happens, and the house is quiet and I can enjoy a couple of hours of serenity, then I am very happy to be up early. 7:30 am is a good time for me. I don't like to stay up late because I need my beauty sleep or I am a beast the next day. 10 pm usually does it for me. My husband is in bed between 9 and 10 pm and the kids go to bed every nite at 9 pm. Weekends and holidays, we keep the same schedule. Living in a country where there are no schedules and everything is upside down, they think we are crazy -- but I know that we are healthier and happy because of it. Have a great day! :) Tammy

I think I am an in-betweener!! I do get up at 05:30 for work!! I prefer to get up slightly later though, at weekends I am normally awake by 07:30!! Work days I go to bed early as I can't keep awake, but weekends I like to stay awake later!! By and large I am an early bird - just not so early as some!!!

I'm thinking 3:00 AM qualifies as getting ahead of the robins?! {LOL} Love the ability to accomplish household duties, enjoying the quietness over an AM cuppa, etc... prior to shuffling off to work. However, find I'm totally toast by 7 or 8 PM.

Happened onto your lovely blog. Most enjoyed your 365 days journals you created for your girls. I found your project inspiring and would have enjoyed seeing more of these paper pretties!

I put off going to bed the evening before because I dont want to face the next morning lol. How amazing you dont use an alarm clock, I do hate waking up to the sound of an electronic buzz!

I am a real early bird as I rise every morning at 5:40am and when I sleep in on the weekends it's about 7:30am - 8:00am and I am good to go! I do on occasion stay up really late and it does throw me for a loop! It is so peaceful in the early am and you do see so much beauty, at the cottage, the mist rising over the water, the early fisherman...just sitting and reflecting...a little Yoga..really starts the day off right!!

Hi,
Im new to your blog and it is beautiful, I will be spending some time here catching up.

I love to sleep in whenever I can. My almost 4 year old daughter is an early bird.
I think early birds have it easier because its hard for us night owls to get up in the morning.

Monica said...

No doubt about it -- I am definitely an early bird. I love to get up early. In fact sometimes my eyes open so early that I have to wait until a respectable time to get up. But I lie in bed at those times, remembering what one of my kids used to ask me, when she would be ready to get up: "Can I be done now?" That thought always makes me smile to myself, and then I roll over and go back to sleep for just a bit.
