A bit of Monday fun with our English Language....
noses run but feet smell
quicksand works slowly
boxing rings are square
guinea pigs are neither from Guinea nor are pigs
there is no egg in eggplant
no ham in hamburger
and neither apple nor pine in pineapple
a slim chance and a fat chance can be the same
while
a wise man and a wise guy are opposites.....

xx P&H
What fun post today. Playing with words, so much fun. Every now and then I spend the days doing this: wlack and bhite or kugs and hisses. Hmm, in Dutch one gets the most wonderful new words.
Koralee, your shoes are shoebaloe! Gorgeous color and so so sweet.
Hope you will enjoy a lot of sunshine too today, my friend. xx
GOOD MORNING KORALEE,

That is so funny! I love this post to start the week. Thanks, darling!
Oh very good, our language is very confusing. In Ireland people say some funny phrases too like a holy terror, hows it going?, Look at your one (meaning look at that woman)and what's the craic..
All things nice...
I"m catching up today! I LOVE Your calico blue teapot, and your gorgeous blue bowls! And you are right, those phrases and names don't really make a whole lot of sense do they? :-) Can you imagine how hard it must be for an english language learner to make sense of this language?
Very clever, Koralee!
These are the things we don´t think of taht often...
Have a nice day, my sweet friend.
Hugs/

Hi Koralee!
Oh this post is so much fun!
I love our language! We have the most amazing twists and turns... It's actually a difficult one to learn for foreigners!
OH~
*Your shoes are so pretty*
Do you find that students always notice new shoes?... isn't that funny!
AND~
Thank you so much for your dear, sweet comments ~ I always look forward to them*
Have a wonderful week dear ♥

Haha, that is really funny to me as a swede! We have strange expressions like that in swedish too, that really makes no sense but still are used - very confusing for people who move to Sweden from other countries. :-)
Thanks for posting it, made me smile!
Oh I do love WORDS! Such a fun post, Koralee!
And remember, A dog not only has a fur coat but also pants. hehe :)
Blessings!
These are so true and so funny! I thing there should be something there about a wise woman too! Come say hi :D
Oh this is so cool...do you know that next year, I will be teaching English language arts as well as my regular French instruction of social studies and science!!! I am excited to teach English!
Fun post as always sweet Koralee! Anita
You are making me hungry for JUMBO SHRIMP :)

I'm so behind on my blogging but here I am and I always know where to go when I need a smile!
A fun post..love it.
Koralee...this was thoroughly entertaining!
well, i know four languages..and of all of them, the english one is cracked! lol
i prefer romantic languages...italian, spanish and french....but even english, when spoken properly - like in a Jane Austen novel.....can be sufficiently romantic! right!
ciao bella
creative carmelina was here!!!!!
